Just A Minute…

Naan TV la vandhene…our ad zap performance which fetched us the first prize was recorded by Southern Spice (SS music). It was telecasted today and with little editing a one minute crux of what we did appeared on the screens. Even though it is being telecasted for the second or the third time I am seeing it for the first time. We were not aware of the time and even some of my team mates have not seen it. Hope they re-telecast and if we know the time we will inform all as many have not seen it yet.

P.S: I(we) feel very sad for missing that interview else it would have been two minutes of fame.

P.P.S: The performance was no good!!!(Gotta improve a lot…)

P.P.P.S: Two practical exams over, screwed up a little bit in viva but somehow managed, one more to go….

Oru ‘PEN’in kathai

Right from my school days I have always enjoyed writing answers for the questions which I don’t know. I never tend to leave any of the questions blank but in college model exams and unit tests it seems very boring even to write the answers for the questions which I know. Way back in school gel pens and ball point pens were not feasible and so I used to resort to fountain pens filling ink everyday. A gel pen for one exam and a ball pen may be for two proved too costly. But now I have written 4 model exams with the same pen which I used for writing class notes for 3 weeks but still the ink has not even dried up one third from the bottom. Saving paper, ink and India’s economy.

On an average 30 people write exam in a hall and almost 50% of the people start sleeping within an hour. (We are supposed to stay in at least for 2+ hours). I usually don’t sleep, I blabber something in the paper or parakku paapaen. Today they announced that those who are sleeping would be made to go to the exam cell and then see the principal.
Today I had computer architecture exam and I have loved writing such exams because the teacher seldom reads the long theory scripts, so it was my day….

Last week I was taken aback reading this in Mark’s blog, he said that some students in his college were suspended for writing some weird stuff in the answer scripts. I usually write something pertinent with the answer or write the same line again and again like …“It helps in quick data retrieval and data can be retrieved fast and easily with it and so it becomes easy for retrieving data from it quickly…. ”

Today there was a question “Write in detail about secondary storage devices”.
It was a 16 mark question and generally 4 to 6 pages will do. It started writing something which I knew, hard disk is a magnetic disc, tracks, gaps *blah* *blah* *blah* and filled two and half pages with a diagram for half a page. Then my turn….
“The amount of data stored depends on the capacity of the hard disk says Undertaker. I have a 40GB hard disk and it is really insufficient and difficult to store a lot of data but Boobu has 80GB hard disk and my friend has a 160GB stone cold stunner hard disk…”
Next is floppy disk, I drew something like a floppy and started putting bits…Floppies are really out of data and are used only by fucking users and so don’t use floppies…”

In school days the bit putting subject was History and Geography but my history mam read each and every line and would spot even the spelling mistakes and geography sir knew the subject very well. So the burden fell on Sanskrit where the sir read only the slokas and never minded about the narrations….I have seen such answers in my brothers answer paper. Actually the scene will have a set of slokas and we have to give the narration after each sloka.
“Describe the meeting between Rama and Ravana in the battle field”
The battle was very fierce and Rama rock bottomed Ravana and then there was an upside ankle lock. Ravana suddenly caught the rope and the umpire relieved Ravana from the submission. Sita yelled ‘come on’ Rama from the stands. After interruptions from Lakshmana and other asuras Rama won the battle with a pin fall.

The next two exams are Operating systems and Visual Programming, some what theory papers and I am not gonna leave the chance!!!

On cloud nine!!!

Before writing something about today’s endeavors I read this (dejected, dejected!) which I wrote almost a month ago because today was totally opposite to this. It was a fine day for every one of us as we returned home with two first prizes in ad zap in two different symposiums at Hindustan College of engineering today. It was very arduous in the morning as I had to travel for almost two hours to reach the college. With Hindustan being one of the oldest private engineering colleges in the city it looked grandiose and welcoming. There were two symposiums stated for the day and I belong to neither of the two departments but we registered for both.

It never looked like a technical symposium and throughout the day I felt like I was attending some culturals. As we were travelling on the way, my friend messaged “machi come soon, shooting goin on here…Shreya and Dhanush …” As soon as we reached we went to see the shooting and Dhanush was sitting atop a basketball post and Shreya was no where in the scene and so we moved on. We attended almost all the prelims and got selected in all the finals except one. One great problem was that some of the finals clashed but later they sorted it out.

After attending the prelims we came through the basket ball court and this time Shreya was there. She looked awesome and we all took a look at her from less than five feet and started moving as time was very sparse. We took our lunch hastily and started attending the finals. The first one was ad zap finals at one department and they had brought judges from SS music and we performed greatly and we were sure of getting the first place. Then we ran all the way to the quiz finals at the other department and it was conducted in an inspired way and all teams on stage were expert quizzers among the engineering colleges in Chennai. I and Samba teamed up for the quiz as usual. Mean while Raja, Mahesh and Samba got selected for the Dumb-C finals and so Samba left in the middle itself as it was hopeless for us.

It was almost confirmed that we won in the ad zap and the girl called me and told that the SS music people wanted an interview with us. Great!!!! And I explained that we were in the midst of other finals and we will turn up in another ten minutes. She called again and then again and again (4 times) and quizmaster yelled “TEAM-A your turn…put off ur cell ….as I was speaking over the phone…”and I also got off the stage leaving two empty chairs for team-A which stood last at the end of 4 rounds and went there but by that time the SS music crew left somewhere. Fuck the luck!!!!

I went back and joined the others and we got great response in the other finals too and won the first place. The product given to was different and amazing. Fanta underwear…The preparation time was 2 minutes and Mahesh beautifully sketched an underwear over the fanta bottle and it brought great response. Also striking performance from one of my team mates Boopathi and good team spirit brought us the prize. We were first prize probables again despite little protests from one of the teams we were declared winners.

At the end of the day we as a team pocketed 1500 bucks in cash, mostly useless gift vouchers from Natural’s beauty saloon for 2000 rupees, red bull drink for on stage winners to be opened like champagne and some other game tokens. The shooting was going on till the evening and a few other scenes were shot and even a few students got autographs from Shreya on their certificates!!! Ha…Ha… even one of my friends insisted it but we somehow left the college. Hindustan totally rocks and provided great hospitality and I liked the atmosphere very much. Hats off to Hindustan and great cheers to the priceless efforts of all the student coordinators.

As I was walking home one politician was speaking in a road meeting “I will give free bus pass in trains to all the students…..” I laughed to myself about the status of Indian politics and headed home. I am still feeling greatly for missing that SS music interview…It would have brought us good fame!!!

Chithiram Pesuthadi: Review

Language: TAMIL
Director: Mishkin
Cast: Naren, Bhavana, Thandapani
Music: Sundar C Babu
Cinematography: Mahesh Muthusamy

After all hype created by the media I went to see Chithiram Pesuthadi just because we got the tickets and some of my friends have seen the other movies running in the theatre. We all met at Spencer plaza and did some window shopping. Time never goes on like usual when I am in the landmark store. I love this store soooo much that too the one in spencer plaza is paradise. I glanced through all the sections and meanwhile it also kept many others glued up with dedicated sections for Kamasutra and Western erotica. Landmark rocks….

We had our lunch at spencer and went to the theatre and to our dismay we have turned up very early and no problem time goes on very easily with 10 enthusiastic people standing in a circle and a plethora of topics to discuss. We entered the hall and a documentary film on Kerala was running. We kalaichified it a lot but it showed a lot of our country’s heritage and poverty status. Don’t mind what ever movie is playing we all stand up and dance at the starting….adhellam palaka valakam :)

Coming to the movie it was not at all up to the expectation, same age old story with little modifications. Malayalam Heroine Bhavana is the pick of the lot and the latest one added to my crush list. As usual heroine (charu) does social service, hero (Naren) rowdy works under a dada (kadhal dhandapani). After a few meetings heroine sight adichifies hero and vice versa and love blooms. Hero (thiru) fights for heroine, gets aruva vettu and is admitted to the hospital. Then in hospital heroine says punch dialogue “unakkum kasu vangitu adikara avangalukkum enna vidyasam….” Then hero sells panju bommai in pondy bazzar wearing a neck tie.

Meanwhile Charu’s father gives green signal for their marriage but Thiru is caught by police from red light area. $$$$INTERVAL$$$$. Padam was soora mokhai till that and after the interval it become much worse .Through out the film Thiru is portrayed as a angry person and shouts “Saav adichuduven” and everyone shouted the same after some time and it turned out to be hilarious. Later charu’s father commits suicide and she gets engaged with another person. At the end when she comes to know that Thiru was caught by the police in place of her father in the brothel she marries him. Edhu kadhai…..

INSERT: The song “Vaala menu…” has created great waves and it was visualized to the highest degree in the theatre. We danced wildly in the theatre and it was very lively. Later some porikki annas from the front rows also joined us and the dappangoothu was samma super. Then we ran like a train around the theatre and what a memorable experience.
P.S: Went to the beach after the movie…semma koothu…

Let me do a SWOT (strength, weakness, oppurtunity, threat) for this film.

STRENGHS:
· Heroine Bhavana, she looked awesome even though characterisation was poor.
· Gana ulaganthan and his portrayal
· One of hero’s friends-lively comedy
· Villain and team
· Songs made differently
WEAKNESS:
· Hero
· Story
· Screenplay
· Direction
· Irrelevant title (in some movies they atleast say the title in between the movie (remember “majaa”) but inga adhuvum illa…)
That’s all!!!
OPPURTUNITIES:
· Characterisation could have been better
· Great opportunities have come for Bhavana (she is paired with Ajith in ‘Naan Kadavul”), Naren has also signed some films.
THREAT:
· Huge threat to Director Mishkin’s head (enna peeru idhu….miskinu, pisikunu…)

MY RATING-5/10
