That Four Letter Word-P(re)-view!

That Four Letter Word
is a movie by first time director Sudhish Kamath. People who have been in the blog world would definitely know that the movie is Sudhish’s dream of life and it transforms his real life into reels(Oops!…It’s a digital film). After a seven year long struggle and 2 and 1/2 failed attempts and many changes in the crew the movie made it to the theatres fresh as ever. The movie is a perfect portrayal of relationships, friendship, LOVE and LIFE in the early 20’s. Everyone could relate any one of the movie characters to their life.

The movie opens with Sunil(Aashil Nayar) wielding his camera trying to make a movie and also convey his love to a girl. Incidentally this happens to be the real life Sudhish and all other characters are his own gang of friends who revolved around his life. Vishal(VJ Cary Edwards),Prashant (Praveen Bharadwaj) and Zebra(’Evam’ Sunil) are the three of his friends who have their own methodologies in life. Vishal wanted to be a heart surgeon but ended up with a broken heart. Prashant is a guy of principles and had a five year plan for how to succeed in life. Zebra wants nothing but SEX.

Their life gets spiced up when the two girls Isha(Usha Seetharam) and Sara/saraswati( VJ Paloma Rao) enter into their lives. Isha is a typical modern girl and Sara was excellently portrayed as the right mix of modernity and tradition. I personally liked Sara’s characterisation and her way of acting very much. It was at the beach influenced by alcohol when everyone feels that they have lost something in life and decide to take the break. Everybody works hard to achieve the goal of their life and diverge in their own ways and end happily.

Here is my SWOT:

STRENGTHS:
-Excellent dialogues and characterisation
-The “TFLW” Rap by Blazee
-The locations which makes you get the feel(Mainly to Chennai vaasis!)
-Sunil and Cary’s down to earth acting. Man Zebra(sunil) was crazy!
-Equal importance to all characters that the audience don’t feel he/she is the main cast.

WEAKNESS
:
-Poor/Bad lighting in some of the scenes( Explanation: Fim made at the cost of a small car)
-Abrupt transition between the scenes and the comic strips
-The strips ran too fast that some parts were not readable.

OPPORTUNITIES:
-The quiz scene involving Zebra could have been made better.

THREATS:

Sudhish has established that independent cinema will also have good reception and paved way for many such talented directors. The movie is officially releasing in Sathyam Cinemas on 23rd February. Go watch it!

Jump’s score: 5.5/10
Here is the trailer of the movie:

Bunked!

I watched That Four letter Word special show at Six degrees yesterday. Sudhish called me on Tuesday and invited me to the show. Thanks a lot to him. I never thought of bunking but at last gave up! Was glad to see Sagaro and two of his friends there and incidentally he also bunked. Later Dinesh joined us. Will post the review soon. I am blogging this from my Graphics lab ;)

Chennai Cheri blogger sanga thalai urupinar Chinna Gabtun has found time inbetween his “Embi A” studies and is back on fire with two hilarious posts. Read the Veerasamy review and the “How to become president” articles.

I stumbled upon this nice blog by Kumiko Suzuki. Check 6 Lessons Britney Spears Can Teach You About Blogging. Absolutely hilarious! Don’t miss that.

On a lighter note i also found that porn master Nilu’s The Maanga has got nominated for the “Indiblog of the year”. If there is a porn category he would have won hands down. I feel that he should compete with the likes of debonair blog and other matter blogs. Kali kaalam!!!

PS: I voted for Nilu ;) Spread matter mama’s prowess!!

THE hiatus…..THAT was….

It has been quite sometime i posted something meaningful in this blog. The few weeks i was away a few good things happened.
Continuing from where i left, Proto happened on the next day of ICR. I was better after the race but i wasn’t able to bend my knee and it pained like hell….I thought it to be a ligament tear but thank god it wasn’t. And during the two days at proto, i never even tried to bend my knee!

Proto was more of fun to me rather than a learning experience. Even though i caught up a few sessions from the domain in which i was interested, i missed a good part of the on stage action.

The party which we had at Cafe Coffe day after the event was unforgettable. Everyone was at their best and i was one among the guys who got mocked;) overall it was hell lot of fun! From there we drove to Dhabba Express for dinner where we decided about the wikicamp.

Went to IIT-Saarang on two days and caught up with a few quizzes. The best of all was the Main quiz which took place after the Light music nite. It was from midnight to 6:30 in the morning….straight 6 hrs sitting on the same place. The audience prize was a shot of vodka and it added fun(this time there were many guys who dint drink though!). Lots of QFI(Quizzing foundation of India) junta were there to see the quiz and so it went off very well. Came home at 7 o clock in the morning and successfully bunked college.
Once again missed to watch the Five point someone play.

Sundays are getting really cruel. I don’t know where to go…The QFI meet, TKF orgs meet, some competiton….from there i rush to attend my CAT classes. I haven’t started my preparations and with this flow i am gonna really suck ! Got to work on that. There are these competitions where the really good cash prize stays in front of your eyes, it’s like go snatch it or some lame ass will do. Recently ppl have found that i have got obsessed with money!

During the ICR me and Ganesh were discussing the beauties of the i phone and he said he is planning to get it.
ME:Oh! so do i! It’s really wonderful.
G:Ok…here is the deal, Save money on your own. Take it as a challenge and get the gadget before this year end.
M:Oh…cool, done!
[ i have made good progress and guess i would hit the 500$ savings mark in a few months just because everything i earn goes in to my savings!! But still i am not sure if am going to get the Iphone. There are a few other things lined up….Let’s see.

Won some competitions in the past week and made very good money apart from coupons from wavetel, Adidas, Levis etc. My name appeared in the Hindu for winning a quiz contest. Try if you can spot it on Page 4 left top corner (Feb 7, 2007)

Thanks to Ganesh, I am taking part in the Imagine Cup. Got very enthusiastic team mates. With the dates extended i suppose we will surely make an entry in the short film contest.

My cellphone service got barred the day before since i didn’t submit the address proof as per the TRAI regulations. I had to go to the Hutch shop in T nagar and fill the forms. The branding which HUTCH does is really awesome. The hutch shop looks really nice with the staff dressed in tune with the ambiance but i can’t imagine a guy going on the road in a light pink shirt and a dark pink coloured tie!

It’s placement time at college and companies will be coming from the next month end as per schedule. People have started preparing and i m still in a dilemma. There is a mock drive tomorrow by TCS and if i attend that i would complete attending college for 5 days continuously after a long time;)

Today is sudhish’s birthday. Wish you a very happy birthday. Have a cheerful year ahead :)

Guess i have blabbered a lot…
I rant, therefore I am!!!!
