We had the college day and the inter department culturals on Monday. The college day was the best fun i had in my college till now. We performed in the variety entertainment and the whole college was roaring with laughter. Although we prepared it on the day before it turned out very well. Excellent performance by Kudi and boopi, we deserved the first prize but internal politics. Same thing happened in the quiz, the scores were tabulated improperly and we got the third place only.

In the evening there was a performance by the famous local troupe Lakshman Shruthi. They played some of the latest kuthu songs and everybody danced for the whole three hours. even some of the staff members joined us!. Totally exhausted. Everybody(padips, pazhams et al) danced and gummi adhichified. One of the most innovative bands, the drummer moved into the crowd and played the famous “En aasai mythiliye” drum beats. Simply awesome! Then there was this small girl who sang cheena thaana standing on the back of the bike which moved around the bustling crowd.

It was around 10PM when we started from the college. I had a severe headache after all the dancing and koothu. I felt like emptying the contents of my head( Don’t ask if there is anything inside). Finally reached home at 11:30. For five consecutive days i was at home jus for 2-3 hours except my sleeping time.(RTFF, culturals, preparations, campus placements). It all ended well.

This weekend i am going to Bangalore to attend the BarCamp in IIM-B. I am going along with Ganesh and few others from The knowledge Foundation. I am greatly expecting to attend the event. Thanks to the hype about IIM-B given by him, it is adding more fuel. I missed the chennai barcamp last year and people say it was the best. Also have my model exams starting on Monday. Dont know how i am going to go to college on Monday after coming early in the morning. I still don’t know what exam i have on Monday. Who cares!

I suppose atleast 300 of the 500+ registered folks will turn up and i am looking forward to those networking and knowledge sharing sessions.

Ramya has tagged me asking to write ten things which i hate about my college. With all the zeal and delight here comes my experiences from S@&^@# school of engineering.

-The dusty roads and the scenic view of the kuppa thotti(dump) on the way to my college sitting inside the thagara dabba bus. Initially i used to feel nauseous but now pazhagi pochu( part of the way)!

-The dog-strap ID cod which has to be around the neck and the watch man doesn’t allow you inside the campus without it.

-The DRESS CODE(anna univ) sucks. Students are not supposed to wear jeans and should be dressed formally since we all belong to a professional college. WTF!
In future~Watchman: Aey! Today is friday, why didn’t you wear the magenta colour jetti. Go to the hostel and get magenta colour jetti from someone, wear and come.

-The floor officers and other goondas who feel like they own the world and never even can show some sort of respect to others while talking. They don’t know englipis and talk in a balderdash manner!

- The stinking smell of the canteen (lunch hall) which you can sense some 100 meters away. I stopped going there after my second year.

- The functions conducted by the college in which you have to be alive after hearing the speech given by all the honourable dignitaries of my college. Exception granted to Thavalai( my principal) who shamelessly praises everyone who sits on stage. Bring a kakoos cleaner, my principal will praise him for half-an hour.

-Most of the staff members who know zilch about what they are teaching. As if we care! It helps though.

-Seniors, other students and many people who live with the “I don’t care for anything” attitude. They come to college, eat in the canteen and go home and dont even show the slightest interest in what is going on around.

-The vetti publicity and hype created by my college for everything it does.(Mostly saraku illada matter)

- The close proximity of my college to the city. I have to walk just 8 kms to catch a PTC bus or come in a kuppa lorry till the bus stop. No i was kidding there is one highly frequent PTC bus(18 H) which comes once in 3 hours.

PS: Now a days, friends and lot other factors have made me stop hating my college! I am already starting to feel that it is just for an year more. Till then i have planned to cherish each and every moment from my college life!

I tag Mahesh, Sagaro, Suraksha, Raja, Sheky, TU dawg who would be completing his college shortly and Bharath who has completed his college.

Heart felt thanks to Ramya for this wonderful tag. I am satisfied

This week was filled with full of joy, hope, tension and a mixed bag of feelings. Finally it all ended well and i got a job with Asia’s largest software and services company TCS (Tata Consultancy Services) with the upgraded pay package TCS was the first company to recruit people from my batch and if i join it would be some 14 or 15 months from now. It’s way too ahead. Anyway chuck all that out. It is my first job and am very happy. People in my college were preparing like hell to get in to TCS and i was soooo lethargic but luckily i also got in along with 142 other peeps *oops* from my college.

First day there was a screening test and it was conducted online. The worst/best part of the test is once you click the submit button the result flashes on the screen… The test was very easy and most of them got “Congratulations you are selected for the next round”. On the second day were the actual interviews. The first interview was Technical interview in which anything from what you have studied in the entire engineering course could be asked. I had it for some 20-25 minutes and there were three interviewers in my panel.

I gave a impressive self introduction with a lot of boasting and one guy seemed interested about my blogging and other publishing stuff. I even gave him my visiting card. He said he will visit my blog which means I cannot bitch about TCS or the interviewer here! “sorry! if you are reading this” One guy questioned about my project for some 10 mins and another 10 min on C++ and DBMS. He asked me to write some queries in which i slightly screwed. I knew i was through to the next round from their facial expressions and exchange of views.

Then there was a MR(Managerial Review) which lasted for around 5 minutes. The HR manager was very jovial and it went on well. I spoke about all my achievements (shameless self-boasting again; I love it though!). Then he spoke about the stock markets as i had mentioned it in my interests in the resume. He said it was impressive and asked if i wanted to share something else. Then again i started putting bit about cycling, wikicamp experiences and some other stuff. We didn’t experience “that moment” when the selected list would be read as it was mailed to us late in the night.

Many are brainwashing me that it is better to do an MBA after gaining some work experience. I am not sure of what to do. There are a few other companies in which my college may allow double placements. I will be attending HP/IBM after my semester exams.

Finally it’s all beyond ” Beyond the Obvoius”~~~ Experience certainty.

I am not finding time to blog these days! Am I that busy…NO, God only knows what the hell am doing without a goal. At least i should get focussed on some important things from now on. Ignore the above few lines if you found them way out of my normal way. It was just to get a feel.

Coming to the point the near future is gonna be flooded with cultural fests and i being in the later half of my engineering career have decided to hunt as many as possible. SAARANG 2007 will be the biggest of all. The dates for Saarang which is like the mother of all cultural festivals has been announced. It’s really going to be great fun. Don’t miss out if you are in Chennai from the 25 to the 29 of January 2007. The peeps have also come up with a proper blog this time rather than the one hosted in blogspot last year. I liked this blog entry much. It’s actually pretty decent.
Yet there are a few things which i find really sucking this year.
The logo(I loved the previous year’s logo), although they have given some great explanations for the logo i donot find it that appealing. The website in which many parts are missing with less than 20 days to go and the pro shows….WTF!
But it is all expected that the IITians live more than the expectations!

These two days i visited Kurukshetra conducted by the anna univ and it was nice. I took part in the two open quizzes and both were held with jam packed audis. Overall good job by the CEG guys.

My exams have almost got over but still there is pom pom left on tuesday. Actually writing such exams like Pom, ethics is great fun. There is something between me and the last exams. Right from the childhood i have scored relatively less in all my last exam be it the geography in tenth or math in 12th and the spree continued in engineering also. It is because after the exams we get holidays and may be i start of thinking what all to do in the holidays while writing the exams. Don’t know what will be the fate of POM. Btw, POM is principles of Management.

The fifth semester is the most crucial one in engineering as it has got a part in deciding the future. Till now i have done well and hope i don’t carry any of the papers to the future. Some exams went ok and some went bad. This time we had a gap of two or three days between the exams and i made the best use of them. I watched a hell lot of movies in between the exams and in the study holidays;) A day before one of the exams i watched 15 episodes of friends and caught with two nice movies. Friends is damn cool and i am watching it again and again.

“Eat well, sleep well” slogan also matched on right with me. One day i slept till 12:30 in the afternoon and woke up to see that the download which i started the previous night was still running and for sleeping extra 4 1/2 hours i paid extra Rs.1000 in this month’s internet bill. The unlimited usage is free only during the night in my plan and i think it’s high time i have got to shift to the unlimited plan.

The exam question papers were relatively ok for me. Some great comedy happened during the preparations. Till the previous semester the college dumped us with the prescribed texts and we had no other option of carrying it home and selling it after the exams. But this time we had to get the books on our own and i never did that. So two days before the exams started, i went to the British Council, returned all the novels which i had borrowed and searched for the subject books. I took some three books which had the same title as my subjects as far as i remembered. Later i found that they had nothing similar to my syllabus and were way too advanced. So chuck!

This one happened before the Microprocessor exam….
I got the book from my friend who had the paper the previous semester. It was 12:30 in the morning(the day of the exam) and i had completed the first line of the syllabus in the first unit. The other things were not there and the IT guys had a different syllabus from that of ours.

I called my friend sathish…
Me: Dei, Godse (Book author) oru !#^$!%@ da….
There is nothing in this book…
S: You should have got Bhuchandi(another author)
Me: I thought this one was suffice.
S: Ok….come to the room…
Me: It’s 12:30, the exam is today.
    Ok….i will adjust!!!

Somehow the exam went off. This is one sick paper, we got almost the same question paper which the IT guys had the previous semester.

One of my College mates Paramasivan from the ECE department passed away during the exams. He was the college topper with some 92% aggregate and was a guy who had his goal focussed on academics. I had a small convo with him just two days before his death and our heart felt condolences to that guy. Why is he forced to leave the earth so soon. May his soul rest in peace.

I am not going to speak about Douglas Adams here what I am going to say is what I have been doing all this month. September is the name synonymous with symposiums in the Chennai engineering college circuit. Although labeled as technical events they don’t offer much in that facet. Then what else is there….Loads of money!!!!! Here is what I have learned after attending lots of such events.

* Attending such symposia is one of the easiest ways to get pocket money.
* Every sympo will have a paper presentation event in which students tirelessly compete with their stolen papers from the net for the Best GOOGLER prize!
* The so called beautiful girls of that college are made to sit in the registration desk clad in saris the purpose of which still remains unknown.
* The inauguration ceremony will have some bald man speaking about communication through underwear and other such irrelevant topics.
*You get FREE FOOD…..yes you heard me right! Almost in every event free food will be served the taste of which is getting better these days.
*In some kind colleges like mine you can get On duty (OD) Leave which could also be used for watching the newly released film that weekend.
*There will be an event called quiz, in the finals of which 3 out of the 5 teams will normally sleep and unfortunately the event will have 2 cash prizes!
*Dumb C- one of the most entertaining event for the participants, but all colleges will not hold this event and so competition and tension would be pretty decent with unimaginable innovations.
* Ad zap-we have been ruling this event getting a prize in almost all the colleges. A welcome change in between the technical events.
* Don’t go to some third rate college thinking you could win all the prizes. They would have got things fixed and you would turn out to be a dumb ass.

The major disadvantage is all the colleges are situated in the extremities of the city and transport is one major problem. Although the college buses ferry the students to the colleges they start very early. I leisurely start from my home and I will be there just in time after the inauguration to attend the prelims.

What did we get?????
This has been the best season for us so far. We as a team got 45000 bucks in cash apart from various vouchers and coupons. My part till today from quiz, dumb c, ad zap, debate etc has reached <s>8000</s> 9000 bucks I think with gift vouchers from Landmark, Pizza Corner, some dabba opticals, naturals beauty salon *ahem* *ahem* and some other chota items. If anybody there who is interested do give me a buzz

Well begun is half done. Now it’s half done…yippee I am a half engineer now. As usual the VeANNAi University after all hiatus released the results on Friday, some three months after we wrote the exams. The univ makes the students to forget the name of the subjects they wrote the previous semester and also it puts up shit in its dumb site just putting the subject codes beside the mark. It becomes infuriating to decipher in which subject you have scored how much and for some people in which paper they have flunked! Pragmatically you cannot expect in which paper you will get a cup.

This time there was no suspense and hype. It was when I was eating people started calling “Machi result vandurchu….CUT”. I hurriedly switched on the modem and opened the Anna univ site. Then I keyed in the number and hooray “Aatha! Naaa paasayiten !”. When I was manipulating the marks of all others in excel I just came up with this one.

Did you track its path? Apde alternata eri erungudu…Next time will i be able to hook it up?pogara pokka patha chancey illa!!!!

‘Revivals’ is the moniker given to this year’s five day long cultural fiesta conducted by the Madras Medical College. I visited MMC on the third day to participate in the quizzing events and the events were lull and not up to the hype created. This is the second time I am visiting a medical college in Chennai, the former being the matchless Ramachandra Medical College flooded with some of the wealthiest peeps who pay gunny bags of money to acquire a seat. Unlike the former, MMC is a government college which is the first destination for the medical aspirants from the state but lacks funding and infrastructure.

The number of events was minimal and the prize money was also not big for the daily events unlike the choreo, fashion parade et al where they offered a whooping 16k for the first place. There were no seasoned quizzers in the college and the way they conducted was amateurish. There were two quizzes, general and sports and we didn’t get through in both. It happens the same way, the general prelims was quite ok but we were a little below the cut-off. If we had made it we would have given a good competition for the two regular winners. In the sports quiz we missed by a whisker and even if we had qualified we would have been sitting baaaaaah…There were some good sporting buffs.

But me and Samba packed home with tickets for the Sunday professional light music show costing 100 bucks each. Some good relief after we got it as audience prize.
One memorable thing was in the sports quiz, there was a question for which samba said Michael Jordan and I argued over how foolish he was and bet my head saying it was wrong. Later it turned out to be the right answer and bought him a juice for losing.
Phew! It’s happening….

HAPPY BUDDAY DEAR…
I am feeling happy that I have completed a year in this precious blogging world. I have been so lazy and forgetful to put a birthday message on the exact date. With scanty updates and a few cherished visitors this stands as my priceless possession. Thank you one and all. At least next time I will cut a cake for you!!!!
WISH U A BELATED HAPPY HAPPY BIRTHDAY MY DEAR BLOG!!!!!!!!!!

Butter, Vennai, makhan, burro, beurre, mantequilla etc (all mean the same!!!), these are the words which loiter around my mind when the thought about this YOU-KNOW-WHAT university and its soaking siblings is invoked inside (got those translations from the new ENCARTA 2006, Microsoft simply rocks!!!). This is predominantly because of its unruly policies and also myriad other facets imposed upon the students by this academia right from the sucking dress code predicament to the recent ban of cell phones, at least the latter has got some concern with education but irrefutably the former is inept.

Still there are a plethora of opportunities and benefits by being a part of this academy or one among the 4, 76,90,345 engineering colleges of Chennai which are under this university such as “How to complete reading a book on Advanced Microprocessors by Thiru.Thanikachalam (local author, where he almost copies everything from a foreign author with some formatting and almost every student prefers this moron’s work) in less than 48 hours” .The number is still growing with the university coming up new schemes commissioned under its new regulations such as

I. Any individual or trust which owns a plinth area of around 500 sq ft is entitled to start an engineering college by paying a lump sum registration fee of Rs.22.56 (includes Rs.2.56 which is equal to 10.2% of the total amount payable to the government as tax).
II. This 500 sq ft odd area is to be partitioned into as many number of class rooms possible depending on the strength of the college and also the building.
III.The college should be sited within 100 km from the city so that the students can travel on a daily basis easily and attend the college without much travel strain.
IV. Also the college can arrange transport facilities by acquiring some 7th or 8th hand buses from outsiders (preferably PTC for their good maintenance) by charging the students a nominal transportation fee of Rs.25000 to Rs.30000 which has been recommended by Justice Mr.Nollamani committee after rigorous research done by this 72 man bench.
V. The university’s latest festive offer, for every three affiliations obtained six affiliation certificates are given for free.

Rush up and avail this limited period offer captioned “You 2 can start an engineering college”. The ultimate aim of this MISSION SHIT is that by the end of the year 2010 every family in tamilnadu should have an engineering college of its own. For more details and to be a part of the mission type shit (i.e.) S-H-I-T and send an SMS to 3636.Standard charges apply.

In order to get a better understanding of the university I have tried to help you out in the form of these…

                                   Frequently Asked Questions

Q. What are the new rules to be laid by the university in future?

A. The dress code is to be implemented austerely with new rules laid down hence forth. All the circuit branch students are instructed to wear underwear of #FF36F3 colour only on all days and the underwear of the students of other streams should be of #FF45F6 colour with prescribed design patterns only. Surprise checks would be done during break and lunch hours and students not following the colour conventions would be stripped off without more ado. All college principals have been instructed to display the design patterns in the main block notice board and students are advised to refer to the same.

Q. How about the examinations?

A. As you enter the examination hall everyone is given an individual book (not for copying…it is empty), it is called as the answer book consisting 44 pages wherein you are required to fill as many pages as possible within three hours but the high point is that nobody tends to sit inside the hall for three hours and there are also some guys who could fill up only 6 12 pages of crap. If you tear the unused pages from all the answer books, we could prepare the electoral list with complete bio data of all Indians for the next 20 years.

Q. How about the evaluation method and something they call as revaluation?

A. With regards to evaluation, I think they weigh the answer books. Oops! Sorry, my mistake! All books have the same weight. I think they have some other complicated method. Revaluation is a process in which on an average 96.34% of the evaluated scripts have to undergo that intricate process one more time after paying some bullshit bucks to the university.

Q. I think there is something called lab examinations and internal assessments.

A. Oh Right, they are conducted at the finale of every semester and your score depends on a lot of murky factors such as sex, built, relative velocity, average strike rate with an additional 5 marks for every time you buy tea and good day biscuits for the examiner.
The most important verity is that if you had asked your examiner to f%$& off during your course tenure then you would be in a total FUBAR* situation during the results.

(*FUBAR-F%$&d Up Beyond All Recognition/Repair)

Q. Hmmm…ok, something about the recent floods and postponements.

A. Thanks are due to Mother Nature for striking indefatigably resulting in the university conducting the examinations in installments. The number of postponements was comparable with the number of times the alphabet ‘a’ is present in the names of Sri Lankan cricketers (sAngAkAArAAA, sAmArAweerAAA, jAyAsuryAAA…).Every match the ‘A’ scores a century despite the failure of the batsmen on a pro rata basis.
But still the failure of MALA was the most devastating, whitewashing a lot of system software answer books (the next day’s exam…)

Q. Anything else to say for future aspirants.

A. Ya. Good luck!

P.S: Stop…! After all , this is the one which has come forward to award a B.E. degree for me(hopes still alive!!!) and all the other aspirants studying in the 4,76,90,345 engineering colleges of Chennai. Long live the VeANNAi University
