Why is chennai the blogging capital of India? This was the topic for the Group discussion which we had before the Rooftop Film Festival. It was for a CNN IBN show and was supposed to start at 6 PM an hour before the RTFF starts. On that day around 10 of my classmates came to my house and we were sitting and chatting the whole day inside my room. We had our farewell on Monday and my team was supposed to give some variety entertainment during the farewell evening. So on that day we decided to write the script and do some rehearsals so that we don’t screw up on the stage. Time went on and on and we were sitting idle doing nothing.

In the afternoon Ganesh called and asked me to come early to Siddharth’s place as there was some shoot by CNN IBN. I thought it was about RTFF and decided to leave at around 5 from my home so that i can reach RA puram by 6. Me and Mahesh also had to edit the movie which we had shot as a farewell gift to our seniors. It just covered various places in my college and we guys decided to add some humorous dialogues and complete it before the evening. It was a perfect piece and it would be great to look at a video of your college years down the lane. But things got fucked up really bad.

Incidentally i was ill when the video was shot and said i will help with editing and stuff. We then paid Rs.150 for processing the tape and when i put the DVD in the drive….What the fuck!!! I think one of the assholes who shot the video was doing something with the other hand….the video got screwed up and was shaky in all the places. We lost hope of editing it.

Coming back….i was late again and my friend dropped me in RA puram and the worst part was i was a few buildings near sid’s place and searched for it for 20 minutes. At last i reached his place and fortunately the shoot didn’t start. We set the mattresses and the cameras were on and we started.

The discussion was very lull ….Take a look here to know what happened there. (I don’t have the patience to write about it….Initially i thought of writing about it but got diverted and am now blabbering something else)

I was bored and sneaked into the kitchen. I have always loved trying to cook and end up doing something new! There was this Gulab Jamun mix lying in the shelf. Something to keep me occupied for the next hour. I read the instructions and starting mixing the dough. I heated oil and meanwhile i made the sugar syrup on the other burner. 40 minutes and i had those amazing master pieces in that large container. Unfortunately i forgot to take a photograph and all the guests were treated with the jamuns and i had to content myself with this picture. For all those peeps, it turned out very well and tasted excellent.

My model exams got over last week and due to some cancellations we have to write one exam after ten days. This time it was very worse. They made us sit for the entire 3 hours. A student can never get a more cruel punishment! Even if u sleep they will pull you out and ask you write the exam again. So blabber anything because the person who corrects knows zilch. Same story as before. I used the word Fuck six times in my software engineering paper. I love doing this! I dont want to bore you people writing it again. A few memorable days this week. Yesterday was Mahesh’s birthday and we enjoyed a lot. 11 people having lunch at good friend Rajesh’s house, man its damn good fun. His mother showed great hospitality and cooking food for 11 college boys is not an easy job!
Then we went to the beach and cut the cake singing happy birthday at the top of our voices making everybody turn. Cash smashing, butt kicks( almost everyone got for some reason or other), hot bhajjis, sugarcane juice drinking contests…. amazing day.
Then we wet singer Naresh Iyer in the beach and took pictures with him. Very cool guy. He provided the perfect ending for the day!

That Four Letter Word-P(re)-view!

That Four Letter Word is a movie by first time director Sudhish Kamath. People who have been in the blog world would definitely know that the movie is Sudhish’s dream of life and it transforms his real life into reels(Oops!…It’s a digital film). After a seven year long struggle and 2 and 1/2 failed attempts and many changes in the crew the movie made it to the theatres fresh as ever. The movie is a perfect portrayal of relationships, friendship, LOVE and LIFE in the early 20’s. Everyone could relate any one of the movie characters to their life.

The movie opens with Sunil(Aashil Nayar) wielding his camera trying to make a movie and also convey his love to a girl. Incidentally this happens to be the real life Sudhish and all other characters are his own gang of friends who revolved around his life. Vishal(VJ Cary Edwards),Prashant (Praveen Bharadwaj) and Zebra(‘Evam’ Sunil) are the three of his friends who have their own methodologies in life. Vishal wanted to be a heart surgeon but ended up with a broken heart. Prashant is a guy of principles and had a five year plan for how to succeed in life. Zebra wants nothing but SEX.

Their life gets spiced up when the two girls Isha(Usha Seetharam) and Sara/saraswati( VJ Paloma Rao) enter into their lives. Isha is a typical modern girl and Sara was excellently portrayed as the right mix of modernity and tradition. I personally liked Sara’s characterisation and her way of acting very much. It was at the beach influenced by alcohol when everyone feels that they have lost something in life and decide to take the break. Everybody works hard to achieve the goal of their life and diverge in their own ways and end happily.

Here is my SWOT:

STRENGTHS:
-Excellent dialogues and characterisation
-The “TFLW” Rap by Blazee
-The locations which makes you get the feel(Mainly to Chennai vaasis!)
-Sunil and Cary’s down to earth acting. Man Zebra(sunil) was crazy!
-Equal importance to all characters that the audience don’t feel he/she is the main cast.

WEAKNESS:
-Poor/Bad lighting in some of the scenes( Explanation: Fim made at the cost of a small car)
-Abrupt transition between the scenes and the comic strips
-The strips ran too fast that some parts were not readable.

OPPORTUNITIES:
-The quiz scene involving Zebra could have been made better.

THREATS:
—

Sudhish has established that independent cinema will also have good reception and paved way for many such talented directors. The movie is officially releasing in Sathyam Cinemas on 23rd February. Go watch it!

I watched That Four letter Word special show at Six degrees yesterday. Sudhish called me on Tuesday and invited me to the show. Thanks a lot to him. I never thought of bunking but at last gave up! Was glad to see Sagaro and two of his friends there and incidentally he also bunked. Later Dinesh joined us. Will post the review soon. I am blogging this from my Graphics lab

2 Mbps-Bull shit!

Although i am very late to blog on this topic i guess this makes a little sense. 2007 is supposed to be the year of broadband and wish the broadband sector lives up to the expectations. When Dayanidhi Maran announced about the 2Mbps shift without increase in charges people seldom believed and at last it somehow became a reality. The increase in the bandwidth doesn’t make a big difference. With limited downloading there is no value addition.

Under the Home 500 plan download is free from 2 AM to 8 AM and Mahesh said me that the average download speed during that time is 100 kbps which is far better than the other providers. But check this out, there are innumerable people bitching about it. I use Airtel but anyday i would not prefer shifting to Bsnl as it lacks customer service. Airtel has got to wake up and increase the speeds.

To sum up all this is crap, few weeks back i was reading the PC world (UK edition) in the British Council. I was not able to control laughing at our situation after reading an article. People were complaining that a certain company promised download speeds of up to 8 Mbps and people were getting only 4 or 5 Mbps. What the fuck! I am speaking of download in terms of kb in a country called India where 128 kbps is called broadband. We have got a long way to go.Unless Bsnl/airtel increases the speed for the unlimited plans the upgrade is bull shit.

Overall computers have developed massively in the past decade. For instance check this out,in the episode “One with the List”(Nov 1995) from the sitcom Friends where Chandler gets a new laptop….He sounds like he got the best configuration for his system

Built in spread sheet capabilities and a modem that transmits over 28000 bps!

Compare it with the current scenario, guess we will make good progress in the Broadband area also few years down the line.

Siddharth in his latest post has unearthed this wonderful site for watching movies online. It has got a hell lot of movies, TV shows ,comedies , cartoons and stuff. The video size and the quality are also pretty decent. I watched a FRIENDS episode and the print and sound were also ok. Buffering would have been better if i had a 2 Mbps connection!!!

Sounds Of Dream

The dreams that i get these days or atleast those which i could remember are totally weird. Here is one among the recent, i was in this exterior galaxy fighting some aliens (aftermath of reading such books and seeing movies of such genre!). All people around were having those extraordinary devices which emit enormous amount of colossal light kinda thing. (In other words the laser guns used in serials like captain Vyom!). There was this mammoth man pitted against me and both our guns produced rhythmic sounds with both shooting alternatively.

I importunately shot at him but nothing happened to him. He was standing like a Trojan horse. I stopped shooting but still the cadenced sound persisted. I was baffled and felt like i was in no man’s land. He neared me but that rhythmic sound didn’t stop…
It persisted….

Suddenly i woke up and still the sound persisted…..
Moron, It is the alarm near the pillow. I switched it off and slept again.
I can never wake up to a alarm call, be it on the day of the exam or even any special occasion.
There is no equivalent to the pleasure derived in taking the short nap after switching off the alarm!

The time i have been sitting in front of the computer doing something or the other has drastically increased these days. That too during the holidays i stare at the screen except the time in which i sleep,eat or crap. I also realized that it has been two full days since i changed my dress and stepped out of my door. I also wondered when was the last time i sat and watched a full movie in the television…ages! Today i switched off my computer(Yes….I did!) and decided to catch up something in the TV. As i was channel surfing i halted at Sun music. It has got some of the dumbest VJ’s and more than that the callers are totally insane…
Here is one such dumb conversation….
(Sorry for those who cannot understand tamil and it is almost impossible to translate this!)

Caller: Kandupudinga paapom! (WTF!!! )

Apart from this the greatest kodumai is the “Yaarku dedicate panreenga?” question and the girl tells out her class attendance order and all family members including onnu vitta chittappa’s munavudu paiyan. All this is in addition to the scrolling SMS for which all dumb people pay money. “I love u chellam….pls call me(Ravi)” “Thala Ajith is back” “Singam Ganguly Kalam erangirchu!” “Hi…..11-B section boys”

Oru “PEN”in kathai-Part 2

It is that time of the year when we had to write our model exams. This sem was no good than the previous one Oru “PEN”in Kathai-Part1. Since our university practicals are alloted in the second slot the exams have not yet got over and only 20 more days for the university exams. Usually by this time our study holidays would have started and i would have started enjoying and sleeping.

The model exams are conducted for name sake and we have started taking it very lightly sem after sem as it does not have very great effects on our internal marks. This semester was equally funny for me. Previously i used to have the book of the corresponding subject for which the exam is happening hoping that i will study in the college bus which happens to be a one hour journey for me. But generally i never take it out in the bus and only change it the next day before going to college. As some of the books are heavy i have stopped carrying those this semester and my bag will have the novel which i am currently reading, my camera and a lot other junk.

Some teachers are kind enough and they even go to the extent of giving the questions which will come for the exam but still there are people like me. With fifteen to twenty minutes of studying you can easily clear almost all those papers with some basic stuff and blabbering which i am very good at. There is one theory paper called “Principles of Management”(POM POM in short!) and generally for such the correction is based on the number of pages you write and no one gives a shit about the content. I write all my stories, song lyrics, in that paper and if i remember correct i used the F*** word 6 times in my answer script. An exact extract from my paper!!!!
Write about Maslow’s theory of Motivation.
Maslow has proposed the theory of motivation and categorizes it based on five levels but what i feel is the theory was fucking bad. The first stage requires food clothing and shelter and only if he gets all these he can move to the next stage but what i contradict is he can move on nude to the next stage and satisfy the safety needs

Today we had one other exam which required some 30 to 45 minutes of writing and we are not supposed to leave the hall till two and half hours and the new rule is we are not supposed to sleep. So what can i do. Count the number of leaves in the tree which is outside for some 20 minutes and then decipher what all is written on the desk. Generally college desks will have the circuit diagrams, programs and some stuff which are difficult to mug up and people write it on the desk. The side in which i sit and write is occupied by girls and i found this today…
“Diviya is Lesbian” and search more intensively “Gaythri and ramya are lesbians”. So i have been sitting and writing my exams on a bench which was previously occupied by Lesbis!

We come out of the hall and samba out of frustration tears the question paper into pieces and put it on the floor.”Dei, what are you doing”. Then he sees down and he has torn all the ten rupee notes which he had in his left packet and unfortunately he had stuffed the question paper in his right pocket.

*Now any person can join orkut directly and an invite is not needed. Way to increase the spam accounts.Go google GO!!!!

*Replying to the scraps directly form your own scrapbook(This was previously a addon in Mozilla firefox but this has now been embedded to all orkut users)

* Community owners can now add upto 10 moderators who can manage the community along with the owner.

*Getting friend requests only from people who speak your language.

Shereen Bhan vs Avantika singh

I have a thing about watching news channels and try to spend at least a few minutes before the idiot box grasping something. I generally do this channel hopping whenever something dreary turns up but when any one of these ladies is on the screen I never tend to do it though the news may be lackluster.

I am not the only one like this. A few months back when I was lavishly spending my time in this somewhat useless website I came across a community for Avantika Singh and it had some 40 members. Oh! I am also into the race, I increased the counter by one. Then sometime later I found another community for Sheeren Bhan, the beauty from CNBC with 20 odd members. Now when I get back to take the pics, OMG there are 225 other jobless people like me. There are two other communities with 100 people in it.

The point is they are not just beauty dolls but are also good entrepreneurs and also have made it big in the business world. They have got their own style, charisma and presentation skills. For instance Sheeren was the FICCI woman of the year 2005. I have a greater affinity towards CNN IBN (shereen!) than the other news channels. ‘Headlines today’ has got babes and smart guys as news readers but doesn’t live upto the standards and NDTV is the worst when it comes to this fact. IMHO the standard of NDTV has faded away after Rajdeep Sardesai ventured with IBN. ‘Times now’ has got a long way to go. The sad point is that I am not able to find sheeren’s blog in the ibnlive site. Everyone else has got it
